This session seeks papers that explore any aspect of gender in eighteenth- century French art. Papers may explore any stylistic period including Rococo, Neoclassicism, and Romanticism. Topics can address but are not limited to: gender and the academy, gender and the practice of art, gender and art theory (Lessing, Winckelmann, Diderot, etc), gender and patronage, gender and Empiricism, female artists, male artists working for female patrons, gender and the genres, and female identity in the visual arts.
