University Grants Commission sponsored National Seminar
on " Questioning Identity:Response of the State and Community in Contemporary India".
Identity politics has acquired unprecedented momentum in the post cold war era specially in the body politic of democratic states with India not being an exception.India has always been a multicultural and multilingual state where the issue of identity takes a unique dimension. The post independent Indian state has tried to accomodate identity issues through its policies and laws. The development initiatives taken by the neo liberal state has corroded the distinct ethos of community and infused further energy to the process of identity construction.Alongwith the conventional ethnic identity assertion we also observe crystallization of newer forms of identity like gender and sexuality. The Seminar invites discussion among scholars, students and policy makerson on different dimensions of identity politics.
Following are the subthemes:

Caste as an Emerging Field of identity Assertion
