Papers on any aspect of postfeminism and popular culture requested for a panel I am organizing for the Midwest Popular Culture Association / American Culture Association Conference to be held Oct. 11-13, 2013 in St. Louis, MO.
Please send a 150 word abstract and short bio in MS Word format to melissa_miles@yahoo.com by March 25, 2013. Selection of panel will be announced April 1, 2013.
The focus on this panel will be on postfeminist representations of femininity and/or masculinity in particular television shows, movies, or other popular media.
Possible topics include, but are not limited to:
Portrayals of economic tensions between men and women post-feminism.
Use of humor in post-feminist portrayals of men and/or women
Marriage, single-hood, gay or straight, in a postfeminist popular context
Reality shows reflecting postfeminist considerations
Bodily representations (including pregnant, overweight/anorexic, transgendered, and/or disabled individuals) in postfeminist popular culture
Sex or sexuality in a postfeminist media
Social media's role in forming a postfeminist popular consciousness
