'Retracing America' invites ten scholars of American modernism and mass media to consider the work and legacy of Paul Strand. Opening with a keynote lecture by Blake Stimson, the symposium will cover a wide range of topics, including Strand's early writings, his photo-books, the intersection of film and photography in his work and the work of his generation, and his increasing political radicalism, manifest in his participation in organizations such as the Group Theatre, NyKino and the Photo League.

Speakers: Caroline Blinder, Mark Crinson, Devin Fore, Andrew Hemingway,Jason Hill, Milena Michalski, M. Antonella Pelizzari,Jorge Ribalta and Terri Weismann.
