Rosalyn Terborg-Penn Junior Faculty Award For 2013
The Association of Black Women Historians (ABWH) announces a call for nominations for the second annual Rosalyn Terborg-Penn Junior Faculty Award. This award is open to Africana women scholars who are members in good standing of the ABWH and who have five to ten years teaching experience at the collegiate level. This is a professional merit based recognition by peers in the field of history. It comes with a monetary award that is given ideally to defray costs associated with bringing interested students to the annual ASALH/ABWH meeting.
Faculty Award Criteria: A scholar is nominated by one of the following: current or former undergraduate/graduate students, recognized student organizations, current or former departmental chair, current or former college dean, current or former university administrator or current ABWH member. The nomination must be accompanied by two letters of support. One letter must come from a former or current student and the other can come from an individual who can attest to the scholars’ encouragement of student research. The nominated scholar must be a ABWH member in good financial standing and should have an identifiable history of promoting student research, and published a minimum of 3 works that can be any combination of monographs, journal articles, websites, book reviews and/or academic reports. The award recipient will have created a minimum of 2 years of ASALH session panels where students presented their research or research they have worked on with the scholar.
Application Materials
The application package must include:
• Two letters of support
o One from a student or student organization
o One from a colleague
• Maximum two-page Curriculum Vitae
• One-page narrative from nominee discussing student -centered and directed research projects
• Description of student panel presentations or student/faculty panel presentations at ASALH
Deadline The application materials must be submitted electronically by June 1 at 5:00 p.m. Late submissions will not be accepted.
