Graduate students from any university are invited to submit abstracts of papers for our 2nd Annual Graduate Student Conference, held on April 17th 2013. This year’s theme is Violence, Conflict, and Development and the committee will review any academic paper which, broadly understood, addresses the drivers and sources of conflict, the dynamics of violence, or development in post-conflict situations. The selection committee strongly encourages interdisciplinary scholars to submit abstracts for review; however scholars and graduate students in political science, anthropology, sociology, history, economics and similar disciplines are all encouraged to submit for consideration.
The selection committee will also accept academic papers focused on any region, in particular Africa, Latin and South America, Asia, and the Middle East. Possible topics and sub- themes may be:
 Demobilization and Reintegration of militants
 Youth, urban contention, and resistance
Trust, Reconciliation, or Transitional Justice
Social Movements and non-violent protest
Building Spaces for Peace in post-conflict settings
 Political Dynamics in Developing Countries
 Economics of protracted conflicts
 Informal Society and Collapsing States
Genocide, Mass Atrocities, and Human Rights Abuses
Humanitarian and Development Intervention
