The Latin American Novel as History

The Big Read continues at Scotch Plains Public Library on Thursday, March 21 at 7 pm when Dr. David Blackmore, Associate Professor of English at New Jersey City University will lecture on understanding Latin American history through literature. He will discuss explicitly Julia Alvarez's various texts on the Trujillo era, along with other fiction that addresses that topic, including Edwidge Danticat's The Farming of Bones. The Big Read is managed by Arts Midwest. Scotch Plains is one of 78 communities nationwide participating in the current Big Read.
