Summer School – Learn Romanian in Sibiu, Romania, July 29th – August 9th, 2013
ROLANG SCHOOL organizes a Romanian language summer school between July 29th - August 9th, 2013 in the city of Sibiu in association with the Faculty of Journalism of the "Lucian Blaga" University, Sibiu. Formerly the center of the Transylvanian Saxons, the old city of Sibiu was ranked as "Europe's 8th most idyllic place to live" by Forbes and was designated a European Capital of Culture for the year 2007, in tandem with Luxembourg.
Language Program Structure
The language program includes 36 hours of Romanian language for beginner, intermediate and advanced levels.
The hours are structured as follows:
30 hours of class courses
6 hours of immersion course
Class course schedule: 3 hours / day, from Monday to Friday, from 10:00 to 13:00
Immersion course schedule: 1.5 hours / day, every Monday and Wednesday, from 15:30 to 17:00 o'clock
Courses location: Faculty of Journalism, 3 Brutarilor Street, Sibiu (7-10 minutes walking distance from the hotel).
The minimum number of students for each group is 5 with a maximum of 9.
Course Curriculum and Instructors
The course curriculum is adapted to the students, with favorite topics arranged around the students' interests. The teaching method is based on communication. Conversations and communication activities alternate with comprehension, vocabulary and grammar exercises.
The course materials are based on ROLANG manual, "Learn Romanian. Apprenez le Roumain" by Mona Moldoveanu Pologea (manual, exercise book, audio CD). Other video and audio materials will also be used.
The instructors are PhD holders, authors of Romanian manuals for foreigners and University of Bucharest teachers.
Language Certificate
At the end of the course the students will be given a test and will receive a certificate proving their level of Romanian language.
Museum Visits, Film Screenings and Concerts
Participants will attend museums in Sibiu, internationally awarded Romanian film screenings and classical music concerts once a week.
Optional Trip
An optional day-trip to Sighișoara (located at a distance of 91 km / 56.5 miles from Sibiu) will be organized on Saturday, August 3rd, 2013. The fee is 35 euros and it is to be paid on the second day of the program. The transportation by coach is included.
Accommodation
The accommodation will be in 3 different hotels in Sibiu, according to the sudents' preferences (2 star, 3 star and 4 star hotels).
The hotels are located at 5-10 minutes walking distance from the courses location.
The participants will be accommodated in single rooms. Double rooms will the booked only for couples / families / friends / colleagues willing to share the same room.
The accommodation covers 13 nights and it includes breakfast.
Check-in: Sunday, July 28th, after 12:00 o'clock
Check-out: Saturday, August 10th, before 12:00 o'clock.
Participants who arrive one day earlier (Saturday, July 27th) or leave a day later (Sunday, August 11th) need to pay for the extra night(s).
Fee
There are 3 types of fees, according to the type of accommodation:
2 star accommodation:
- 650 euros / person (single room)
- 560 euros / person (place in a double room)
3 star accommodation:
- 790 euros / person (single room)
- 650 euros / person (place in a double room)
4 star accommodation:
- 980 euros / person (single room)
- 730 euros / person (place in a double room)
The fee includes:
- accommodation (13 nights)
- breakfast
- 30 hours of class course
- 6 hours of immersion course
- manual, exercise book, audio CD
- final test
- language certificate
- museum visits
- film screenings
- classical music concerts
Payment method
The fee can be paid in several ways:
- bank transfer (you receive a proforma invoice that contains all the payment details)
- PayPal
- Credit Card (the applicant receives a payment request via e-mail from PayPal; no PayPal account is required)
- or in cash at our office in Bucharest
The applicant agrees to pay all commissions, fees, charges or expenses related to the money transfer.
The confirmation of participation will be provided by email.
