Petition drives supported by a large collection of signatures are part of contemporary politics. This political form clearly originated in 17 Century, England but it was later adopted in political and social struggles all over the world: from antislavery movements to Catholics all over Europe supporting the Pope against the Kingdom of Italy. ¿How did this happen?
This panel aims to discuss the diffusion of this form of collective action, its changing meanings, and the conditions under which it was first adopted in different geographical and political contexts.
This is a call for papers to a session in the ESSHC Politics, Citizenship and Nations Network. Vienna, Austria, 23-26 April 2014
