This session has been approved for the 2013 PAMLA Conference in San Diego, California on November 1-3, 2013.
For centuries, literature from East Asia has reflected the respect traditionally afforded educators. In the modern era, however, cultural mores are being uprooted and teachers often complain of being devalued. This panel will seek to explore modern depictions of educators, examining what sentiment is reflected in modern literature. We invite papers concerned with any aspect of the portrayal of education and educators in modern East Asian literature. Please send questions and proposals (approximately 300 words) to Chris Dawe at dawe@gse.upenn.edu. When it becomes active, proposals will also need to be submitted to the PAMLA website: www.pamla.org.
Deadline: March 31, 2013.
