We invite proposals for an upcoming special issue of the Hispanic American Historical Review on the theme of Sound and New Media in Latin America. Contributions are solicited from a wide range of scholars working with sonic sources and engaged with the methodologies, challenges and opportunities of using sound as a category of historical analysis. Because this issue of HAHR will have a strong online component, we seek contributions from authors who have audio and/or video files that are available for incorporation into this special issue. Possible topics include but are not limited to:
Radio, Phonographs or Other Sound Media
Language, Dialect, Oratory
Oral History
Ethnography
Music, Religion and Popular Culture
Sound in Nature/Media and Environment
New Media Technologies
Soundscapes of War and Peace
Science of Sound
Interested scholars should submit a one-page abstract and short curriculum vitae to Alejandra Bronfman Alejandra.bronfman@ubc.ca and Christine Ehrick ehrick@louisville.edu no later than March 1, 2013. We will accept submissions in English, Spanish or Portuguese. Selected authors will be invited to submit complete articles, which will be due no later than August 15, 2013. Articles selected for special issue will be subject to the review and approval procedures of HAHR.
