Dear Jewish Studies administrator or faculty member,
We are delighted to bring to your attention a forthcoming program in Jerusalem this summer, hosted in partnership between the University of Florida and the Hebrew University. This program is open to students of any institution, and carries 9 UF transferable credits in Hebrew Language, Israeli Culture and Politics and Society in Israel.
This is an intensive program running from June 9 to July 5, 2013. It’s a four-weeks program, awarding 9 credits, and scheduled conveniently to allow further summer study either in Israel or elsewhere. Program cost is $6199 ($5449 to UF Students). Students might be eligible for further fellowships through Hillel (either Hillel at UF or elsewhere).
Following are some of the program’s highlights. For further information please feel free to contact either Prof. Patricia Woods (pjwoods@ufl.edu) or Dr. Dror Abend-David (d.abend.1@alumni.nyu.edu).
UF HUJI – Israel Summer Program
Directed by Prof. Patricia J. Woods
and Dr. Dror Abend-David
June 9 to July 4, 2013
* The program offers 9 credits in 4 weeks, offering 3 courses on Israeli Culture (Intro), Politics and Society in the Middle East, and Hebrew Language (all levels). These are UF transferrable credits.
* The program is divided between class lectures (3 days a week), educational tours (2 days a week), and free time (the weekend). Reading materials will be available before the program begins, and final papers are to be sent via email when the program ends.
* Some tours highlights: Old City (Jerusalem), Kneset (Israeli parliament) and the High Court, the Galilee, Tel Aviv and Jaffa, the open Markets in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, Museum visits, the Theater, and other cultural locations and events.
* Accommodations are at the International school at the Hebrew University. The Rothberg School of International Studies hosts a number of international programs from Harvard, Yale, Chicago University and other institutions from the US. It provides an excellent service complete with state-of-the-art classrooms, the best library in Israel, and logistics that take into account everything from Meals and Residential Assistants to access to cell and internet service.
* The program is scheduled to begin right after the end of the spring semester at the Hebrew University, and before many other summer programs begin. It is easy to transfer from a previous program, or to stay longer and attend further international programs at the Rothberg School.
* This program is open to students from institutions other than the University of Florida.
* There are quite a few funding sources and scholarships for students who wish to participate.
Best wishes,
Patricia J. Woods, Ph.D.
