A two-day workshop for Postgraduates and Early Career
Fellows, University of Nottingham, 18th and 19th April 2013
This two day interdisciplinary workshop is aimed at postgraduates and early career researchers working in the fields of economic and business history. Researchers in these areas work in a wide range of disciplines and departments such as History, Economics, Geography and Business Schools. They also think on a wide range of themes such as commercial networks, finance, transport, trade, the economy, investment; the list is potentially endless. This workshop is designed to bring researchers in these seemingly disparate areas together in a supportive and friendly environment via the prism of sources.
The theme of this workshop is therefore ‘Perspectives on Sources for Economic and Business History’. Delegates will be asked to consider certain issues with relation to their own research, thereby encouraging them to be reflective about their sources as well as learning from each
other. Areas that might be discussed include (but are not confined to): identifying and locating relevant sources; which sources for which purpose? bringing together disparate sources; managing sources and creating databases/IT resources; intellectual and property rights concerns; legal and ethical issues; problems with collection and collation; oral history(interviews with former employees for example); publication.
There are no registration fees, and accommodation, breakfast, lunch and refreshments will be provided.
Please send proposals of 500 words by Friday 15th February to Ms Emily Buchnea at ahxeb@exmail.nottingham.ac.uk
This event is sponsored by the CEBH, the Economic History Society and the Department of History, University of Nottingham.
