“The Real China Challenge”
China’s economic model (authoritarian capitalism or “capitalism with Chinese characteristics”) has been cast as a geopolitical challenge to the modern democratic capitalism, especially after the global financial crisis. Yet, Dr. Alexander T. J. Lennon, editor-in-chief of The Washington Quarterly, argues that the “China model” and the challenge it presents has been misunderstood. The following questions seek to be answered. What are the challenges and risks presented by the “China model,” to the Anglo-American model as well as India’s, and what are the potential terms of a nascent geopolitical competition among capitalist systems?
Chaired by P.K Hormis Tharakan, Adjunct Professor, Department of Geopolitics and International Relations, Manipal University, Manipal
