The Africa Berlin International Conference (ABIC) Berlin, MediateamIT Educational Center (MTIT) Berlin, and Humboldt University (HU) Berlin, are pleased to announce a 5 day (26th – 30th August, 2013) conference centered on Freedom, Self-determination and Growth in Africa. The basic assumptions around which the conference revolves is that the freedom to pursue good life, liberty, justice and protection in an atmosphere of equal opportunities is as natural as it is foundational to the growth, stability and health of a people, nation and continent. Africans fundamentally and culturally are compassionate, community oriented and creative. Through their compassion, they care one for another, through the elevation of the community before the individual, they seek collective advancement, growth and riches, and through their creativity, they are industrious and inventive. Only a free spirit can soar, can show empathy, can be creative and can be patriotic.
• How can Africans assure individual, collective freedom while engaging in nation building?
• How can Africans assure their dignity, conservation of their values, and ways of life, yet achieve development across all social and economic spheres?
• How do Africans sustain population growth without compromising on democratic values?
• How do Africans ensure political, socio-economic transformation, enhance modernism and participate on the global economy without the cloak of neo-colonialism, invasive China, divisive religious profession, terrorism and corruption?
• Where are the voices of freedom against bigotry and nepotism and cronyism?
• Where is the institution against the need to pay a bribe before opening a business?

Papers are invited that deal with freedom and self-determination writ large. Every facet of African life ranging from the historical to the contemporary, covering the political, religion, educational, popular movements, science, technology and arts is welcome.

Intending participants should submit an abstract (maximum of 250 words) and a registration fee of 140 Euros (for two copies of conference anthologies, snacks, and conference materials). The deadline for abstract submission is March 31st, 2013; extended deadline is April 14, 2013. The content of the abstract should include title of paper, name of the author(s) address, telephone number, email address, institutional affiliation and about 5 key words. Authors are free to suggest more than one subject areas where their papers fit in. Full length papers must be submitted by July 30th, 2013. Abstracts and full papers must be submitted by electronic mail to: abstract2013@africaberlin-conference.com Submitted papers will be published in a peer-reviewed anthology.
