African American Literature and Social History Summer Institute for High School teachers
|
|
The proposed summer institute will provide the opportunity for 25 secondary school teachers to study both well known and less familiar, but significant, works in African American literature and to examine the interplay between fictional narratives and social, historical, and philosophical frames. NEH summer scholars will be encouraged to integrate literary analysis and criticism with insights drawn from research in social history using readings of African American literature with social, historical and philosophical writings relevant to the frame and context of the fictional works.
