I'm pleased to announce an additional tour available for those attending the AHA in New Orleans. The Odgen Museum of Southern Art is one of the foremost collections of Southern art in the United States. This tour will highlight some of its permanent collections as well as its current exhibitions.

The museum’s collections include the paintings of self-taught artists such as Clementine Hunter and Thornton Dial, recent photographs of rural Kentucky by Shelby Lee Adams, Tav Falco’s photographic travelogue from the 1970s, the early modernist paintings of Will Henry Stevens, and Walter Anderson’s detailed ecological studies of the Gulf Coast. The tour will also include a talk by Michael Deas, one of the country’s master illustrators, about the current retrospective of his work. Deas has painted twenty-one US postage stamps, including the Tennessee Williams, Katherine Anne Porter, Bette Davis, Meriwether Lewis, William Clark, and two of the best-selling postal stamps in U.S. history, Marilyn Monroe and James Dean.

Everyone should plan to meet in the lobby of the Marriott (location TBA) at 1:30 to purchase tickets and make the 15-minute walk together to the museum. Exact change is appreciated.
