Call for essays: Swimming Pools on Film
Many films represent the swimming pool not merely as a background landscape, but as a site where social, political, cultural and aesthetic forces converge. This volume of film studies essays seeks to investigate why the pool has proven such a potent setting onscreen.
The editors have several contributors already confirmed, and are looking for essays in the following areas:
- pools in comedies, e.g. 1980s US high school comedies
- pools in Asian cinema
- pools in gay independent cinema
- the use of colour in films featuring swimming pools
- pools in Russian cinema
We are seeking essays of around 4,500 words, to be completed by October/November 2013. Essays might deal with either fiction or documentary, and might focus on a single film or compare several works.
For consideration, submit a proposal (title, abstract of 400 words, select indicative bibliography, short author biography) by 6th January 2013.
