The fourth biannual ICAIOS conference will be held on June 9-10, 2013 at the campus of Malikussaleh University (UNIMAL) in the City of Lhokseumawe, North Aceh, Indonesia. The conference will be organized in cooperation with the research project under “Inter-University Partnerships for Strengthening Health Systems in Indo-nesia: Building New Capacity for Mental Health Care” of Harvard University.
While the third conference looked at vibrant dynamics of consolidation and transforma-tion processes in post-disaster and post-conflict regions, this fourth conference will ex-plore the dynamics beyond reconstruction by examining “Social Recovery” in broad terms. Unlike physical reconstruction, social recovery takes longer time to shape after a disaster or a conflict. ICAIOS invites abstract(s) submissions and panel proposals to present quality papers from original research that addresses the psycho-socio-cultural dynamics of recovery following major disasters or conflicts.
The June 2013 conference will discuss these in five panels: (1) Psycho-Social Issues, (2) Socio-Political Changes, Governance, and Legal Issues, (3) Reconciliation, Culture and Religion, (4) Gender, Representation, and Participation, (5) Socio-Economy, Envi-ronment, and Natural Resources Management. We also welcome special panels.
All research papers on Aceh and its connections and comparisons with Southeast Asia and the Indian Ocean regions more broadly will be considered for inclusion. Abstracts should not exceed 200 words. Please send your abstract (s) and CV to
