Call for Papers
For its first international conference, Kingston Writing School (KWS) invites submissions of abstracts and suggestions for theoretical or practice-based papers, workshops, round‐table discussions, panels, performances and works in progress that will add to our understanding of the relationships between writing pedagogy and practice in Higher Education.
We are seeking papers which focus on reflection and discussion of pedagogy and practice in higher education in light of all forms of writing, from all genres of creative writing to journalism, digital publishing, blogging and writing for social media as well as the more traditional academic forms of writing practice such as the academic essay, the review and the commentary.
This three-day conference will provide a valuable interdisciplinary opportunity to consider key debates across and between various areas of expertise, interest and best practice, as well as showcasing experimental approaches to writing and teaching methods from a diverse body of researchers and practitioners. The conference organisers are particularly keen to encourage the contribution of graduate students, writing or teaching software developers, practice-based curriculum designers and professional practitioners. We hope to receive performance-based proposals on experimental classroom practices or experimental approaches to the integration of diverse forms of writing into teaching methods. KWS encourages interscholastic and intergenerational discourse.
Relevant themes include, but are not limited to:
• Methodologies for teaching various forms of writing: fiction, non-fiction, academic writing, professional writing
• Hypertext pedagogy , digital culture and the 21st century creative writing workshop
• The role of critical theory in writing pedagogy
• The effect of social, cultural and economic change on curriculum design and classroom practices for writers
• Multicultural writing needs and practices
• Writing and Pedagogy: interaction, connectivity, creativity
• Assessment criteria at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
• Teaching writing research skills
The third day of the conference will host the fourth bi-annual Centre for Life Narratives (CLN) international conference, a Special One Day Symposium, with a focus on the Pedagogy and Practice of Life Narratives of all kinds (auto/biography, memoir, letters, documentaries, blogs, therapeutic journals, first person accounts, etc.) For this Symposium, we will seek proposals on themes such as those listed above, specifically in relation to non-fiction, documentary and experienced-based writing.
