The Ricci Institute for Chinese-Western Cultural History
at the University of San Francisco Center for the Pacific Rim invites applications for its research fellowships for the AY 2013-2014.
The USF Ricci Institute is an internationally renowned research institute and archive that promotes the study of Chinese-Western cultural exchange. The Institute supports visiting scholars and fellows, publishes books, articles, and collections of rare documents for an international audience and sponsors symposia and seminars on the many facets of Chinese-Western cultural exchange from the Ming dynasty through the contemporary period.
RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS (2 TYPES):

The USF Ricci Institute invites applications for two in-residence doctoral Research Fellowships during the 2013-14 academic year for scholars and graduate students whose dissertation research on Chinese-Western cultural history would be enhanced by the library and archival collections of the Ricci Institute.
This in-residence fellowship provides a stipend of up to $2,500/month for a period of two to three months. While in residence, recipients are expected to interact with other researchers at the Ricci Institute and USF faculty and students about his/her research and to participate in Ricci Institute and Center for the Pacific Rim events. If feasible, fellows are also invited to give one presentation on their research. By the end of their residence, he/she will be required to submit a one page, single-spaced report on the value of having used the resources at the Ricci Institute for his/her research.
Submit by December 15, 2012, the following: (1) curriculum vitae; (2) a 5-10 page double-spaced research proposal including a review of progress made toward the Ph.D. degree, plans for use of the Ricci Institute’s collection, research timeline, activities, and the contribution the research would make in the relevant field(s) and to the mission of the USF Ricci Institute; (3) a proposed budget and other funding sources, if any; (4) two up-to-date letters of recommendation (one letter should come from the supervisor of the applicant’s dissertation).

(2) RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP
The USF Ricci Institute invites applications for a Research Fellowship during the 2013-14 academic year. This fellowship is open to faculty and researchers whose research focuses on Chinese-Western cultural history and are planning to conduct independent research primarily based on the archival collections of the Ricci Institute in preparation for a new, peer-reviewed publication.
This in-residence appointment provides a monthly stipend (up to $3,500/month) for a period of three to six months . While in residence, the fellow is expected to deliver one public lecture about his/her research, to interact regularly with other researchers at the Ricci Institute and USF faculty and students, and to be available as a guest speaker in one USF class (Asian Studies, the MAPS program, or another undergraduate or graduate class). By the end of the fellow’s residence, he/she is required to submit a one page, single-spaced report on the value of having used the resources at the Ricci Institute for his/her research.
