The W. E. B. Du Bois Institute for African and African American Research, Harvard University
2013-2014 Fellowship Opportunities
The W. E. B. Du Bois Institute Fellowship Program invites approximately twenty scholars to be in residence each year and reflects the interdisciplinary breadth of African and African American Studies. Established in 1975, the program supports the research of scholars at all stages of their careers, pre-doctoral, post-doctoral, midcareer, emeritus, and independent. Scholars come from all around the U.S., Africa, Europe, and Latin America to participate in a range of activities at the Du Bois Institute and the Harvard University campus, including a weekly fellows’ colloquium, fellows’ workshops, lectures, performances, and art openings.
Fellowships are awarded for the full academic year or for a single term. Fellows receive office space; a Harvard University ID card, which provides access to all University libraries, online resources, and other University facilities; a Harvard University email account and access to a computer; a telephone with voicemail; and the use of photocopier, scanner, and fax machine.
The Du Bois Institute community is rich in programming and opportunities to network with scholars engaged in African and African American research. Fellows are asked to reside in the Cambridge area during the term of their appointment, to take maximum advantage of their office spaces in the Institute, and to engage in activities designed with Fellows in mind.
Applications for funding are considered separately from the main application. In rare cases, a stipend up to a maximum of $25,000 is provided. We encourage you to seek funding from additional sources.
