The graduate students of the Department of History at Carleton University are pleased to announce the 19th Annual Underhill Graduate Student Colloquium, to be held on March 7, 8, 9, 2013 in Ottawa, Ontario. This interdisciplinary conference provides master¡¯s and doctoral students with a collegial environment in which to present their original research and build academic contacts.
The keynote speaker for this year¡¯s colloquium is Dr. William Turkel of Western University, well known for his work on digital and environmental history. The conference will conclude with his address, entitled ¡°Doing History in Real Time.¡± The colloquium also features a luncheon address, delivered this year by Dr. Shawn Graham of Carleton University¡¯s Department of History.
The colloquium organizing committee invites paper proposals on any history-related topic from students working in any field or discipline. We welcome papers dealing with any time period or geographic setting. Students participating in the conference should plan to deliver their presentations in the standard 15-20 minute time frame. We also invite proposals for workshop sessions on migration and public history. These workshops will provide graduate students who specialize in these fields a unique opportunity for an intensive discussion with their colleagues. Workshops will be two hours in length and the papers will be pre-circulating.
Please send a 300-word proposal, along with a brief biographical statement, to underhill@carleton.ca. The deadline for receipt of proposals is January 15, 2013.
