Call for papers: Edited volume

Title: “Brazil on the World Stage: Culture, Politics, and Nationalism in the 21st Century”

This edited volume seeks to highlight some of the contemporary debates on Brazilian popular culture, race-relations, environmentalism, social movements, political transitions, and regionalism at the start of the 21st Century. In the context of Brazil’s preparation to host the 2014 World Cup and 2016 Summer Olympics, the chapters of this volume articulate some of the defining features of contemporary Brazilian culture and legacies of past centuries now surfacing in this period of accelerated globalization. Possible chapters might address: the evolution of carnaval, MST (Movimento Sem Terra), futebol, representation and realities of favelas, regional migration, energy efficiency and innovation, cinema, popular music etc.

Chapters should be written in English and no longer than 8,000 words including endnotes and bibliography. Submissions should follow MLA formatting style.
