Seeking one or two panelists and a chair for the British Scholar Society's Britain and the World Conference, being held March 28-30, 2013 in Austin, Texas.
This panel will focus on the connections between hunting, conservation, and tourism. We are particularly interested in papers that examine:
• the figure of the white hunter
• American hunters in colonial or post-colonial Africa
• the inter- or intra-imperial movements of hunters
• the rise of eco-tourism in Africa, and
• the transition of conservation from an imperial mandate to an apolitical, global cause
Papers on other topics related to hunting, conservation, and tourism are also welcomed. If interested, please submit a 150-300 word abstract to Dr. Angela Thompsell (athompse@brockport.edu) by October 12th. The deadline for panel submissions is October 15th.
