2013 Terra Foundation Publication Grants & Essay Prize
The deadline for all essay submissions and grant applications is January 15, 2013.
International Essay Prize for American Art, Smithsonian American Art Museum
This prize recognizes excellent scholarship by a non-U.S. scholar in the field of historical American art (pre-1980). Manuscripts should advance understanding of American art, demonstrating new findings and original perspectives. The prize-winning essay will be translated and published in the scholarly journal American Art. Additionally, the winner receives a $1,000 award and a $2,000 travel stipend to give a presentation in Washington, D.C., and meet with museum staff and fellows. Publication Grants
These grants provide support for publication projects on historical American art (pre-1980) that make a significant contribution to scholarship and have an international dimension. Projects may include translations of texts on American art; publications written by non-U.S. scholars or those with a significant number of non-U.S. contributors; and publications with a focused thesis exploring American art in an international context. Projects must be under contract for publication. Books may receive up to $30,000; articles may receive up to $3,000.
