The Institute of Caribbean Studies of the University of Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras invites the academic community and the general public to the lecture “La psicología en Cuba: algunas reflexiones sobre su historia” [Psychology in Cuba: Reflections on its History] by Dr. Fernando González Rey (Centro Universitario de Brasilia; Inter-American Psychology Award, 1991; Order “Carlos J. Finlay,” 1995). Dr. Guillermo Bernal (Director, Institute of Psychology Research, UPR-RP) will serve as commentator. The activity will be held on Thursday, October 4, from 1:00 to 3:00pm in the Carmen Rivera de Alvarado Building (CRA 108), School of the Social Sciences, UPR-RP. This lecture will be broadcast LIVE online through the following website: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/cc71***Description: This lecture will provide an overview of the development of psychology in Cuba after the triumph of the Cuban Revolution in 1959. This discussion will center on the following issues: the teaching of psychology in Cuba, its various stages, achievements and challenges, the relationship of the development of Cuban psychology with different moments in Cuban society after the post-revolutionary period, the search for a Marxist psychology, the development of a cultural-historical approach within Cuban psychology, the development of different areas of psychology in Cuba, and its relationship with the development of Latin American psychology.
