International Conference
From one revolution to another:
Revolutionary circulations, 18th–21st centuries
Paris-Est Marne-la-Vallée University
12–14 June 2013
The conference addresses the revolutionary phenomenon in modern and contemporary times from a somehow neglected perspective: that of the circulation of theories and ideas, actors and practices, and symbols and interpretations of revolutions. Revolution is defined as the invention of a radically new political and social order. Yet, the breach of law and the development of new rules require practices that have been already experienced and legitimized in previous revolutions. Thus, revolutions are connected through the mobilization of a broad and complex set of symbols, images, texts, gestures and codes that the actors constantly re-enact and reinterpret while preparing their own one.
