Meeting of the University of Virginia Corcoran Department of History Graduate Student Conference

The Corcoran Department of History at The University of Virginia is pleased to announce its Annual Graduate Student Conference on the theme, Historicizing the Present. The conference will be held at the University’s campus on February 23, 2013, and will include a keynote address by Thavolia Glymph (Duke University) with a reception following.

The Program Committee for 2013 invites proposals from graduate students nationwide for individual papers on all topics related to the theme, Historicizing the Present from its pre-colonial era to today. We encourage students to submit papers that consider the relationship between historical events and our current world. We seek proposals employing innovative approaches and interdisciplinary research. In addition, for the 2013 meeting in Charlottesville, it extends a special welcome to proposals relating to but not limited to:

African American History
Disability History
Im/migration History
History of the Body
Labor and Working Class History
Latina/o History
Mass Incarceration
Spatial History
Transgender History
Urban History and History of Gentrification

All proposals must include the following information:
A complete mailing address, e-mail address, phone number, and affiliation of participant
An abstract of no more than 500 words for the proposed presentation A vita of no more than one page

The deadline for proposals is October 1, 2012 and should be sent to UVAHistoryConference@gmail.com. Final papers should be submitted by January 15th, 2013.
