On behalf of the International Seminar on Indo-Portuguese History, the fourteenth session of which will be held in Delhi on 11-13 February 2013, I am seeking papers for two panels. The theme of this year's conference is "India, the Portuguese and the Indian Ocean Societies: Exchanges and Engagements."
For the first panel, I am seeking papers that examine exchanges in the Indian Ocean world facilitated or transformed by the Portuguese presence. Papers on east African, southeast Asian and the Persian gulf are welcome, although papers that focus solely on India will fall outside the purview of the panel.
The second panel will be devoted to the BRICS and I am particularly interested in papers that examine India's role in ex-Portuguese colonies in Africa as well as India's relationship with Brazil in the contemporary era. Please note that this particular panel is open to all disciplines.
If you are interested, please send a brief bio-sketch and abstract for the conference to ananya.chakravarti@eui.eu. If you are interested in learning more about the conference, I will be happy to forward the longer concept note describing the theme of this year's conference to interested panelists.
