A recent trend in feminist scholarship explores the role the skin plays in formations of the self. The skin functions as a boundary between self and other that is permeable, specifically in relation to touch. This panel invites abstracts that explore constructions of female subjectivity and sexualities in Victorian literature, focusing on the skin surface localized to the hand, or more generally to the female body, as a site of tactile exchange. Send 250-500 word abstracts to Kimberly Cox, SUNY Stony Brook, kcox006@gmail.com, by Sept. 30, 2012.
