This roundtable session will take place at the NeMLA conference in Boston, MA (March 21-24, 2013).
We will consider literary texts as cultural commodities that can be exported through
translation. By looking at examples of translations from diverse periods and cultures, we hope to generate a
discussion about how ideological, political, economic factors impact the theory and practice of translation.
This discussion will be in dialogue with recent debates about world literature and translation theory
We will consider translations into English and from English into other languages from any period. Abstracts of no more than 500 words to Antonio Ochoa aochoa@bu.edu and to Victoria Livingstone vjl@bu.edu by September 30th.
