Subject: ALI brings ArchaeoSeek under its umbrella
The leading social networking Web site for archaeologists, ArchaeoSeek (archaeoseek.com), as of August 1, 2012, is under the management of Archaeological Legacy Institute (ALI). The new ArchaeoSeek logo and layout are designed to reflect this change and a new connection with ALIís streaming-media Web site, The Archaeology Channel (archaeologychannel.org).
Launched by Anita Cohen-Williams in March 2007, ArchaeoSeek is designed as an online meeting place for archaeologists, including students, professionals, volunteers, and armchair archaeologists. It is designed to be an ideal place for discussing archaeological issues, sites, excavations, field schools, and other matters archaeologists might bring up. Just as with Facebook, ArchaeoSeek members set up individual pages for interacting (including messaging) with invited friends. Members can create special groups for interaction on topics of mutual interest. The site includes forums inviting all members to weigh in on discussions. Members can post blogs and photos to share with others. A special section highlights archaeological news. Member can upload and access content through their smartphones.
ArchaeoSeek currently has 1141 members. ALI plans to promote ArchaeoSeek through The Archaeology Channel and via its Facebook pages, listservs and other means in order to expand awareness of its existence and grow its membership. Anita Cohen-Williams and her associate, Smoke Pfeiffer, will continue as site moderators.
