The Texas State Historical Association is soliciting nominations for its annual fellowships. Founded as a private, nonprofit educational organization on March 2, 1897, the Texas State Historical Association’s mission is to further the appreciation, understanding, and teaching of the rich and unique history of Texas through research, writing, publication, and educational programs.
Below is a short description of each fellowship. If a topic is qualified for more than one fellowship, four (4) copies of vita and paper must be submitted for each award to be considered. The application should specify the purpose of the research, the need for the money, and a description of the end product (article, book, or exhibition).
• The 2013 Catarino and Evangelina Hernández Research Fellowship in Latino History is given annually for the best research proposal relating to the history of Latinos in Texas. No longer than two pages.
• The 2013 Mary M. Hughes Research Fellowship in Texas History is awarded annually for the best research proposal on twentieth-century Texas history. No longer than one page.
• The 2013 John H. Jenkins Research Fellowship in Texas History is awarded annually for the best research proposal having to do with Texas history. No longer than one page.
• The Cecilia Steinfeldt Fellowship for Research in the Arts and Material Culture is given annually for the best research proposal on decorative and fine arts, material culture, preservation, and architecture in Texas from the seventeenth century to the present.
• The 2013 Lawrence T. Jones III Research Fellowship is awarded annually for the best research proposal having to do with Texas history and the Civil War.
Nominees should submit an entry form, four (4) copies of vita, and four (4) copies of each proposal to the TSHA office by December 31, 2012.
The committee will make its selections for awards by January 31, 2013. The Association will give the awards at its annual meeting in Fort Worth in March 2013.
