The Voluntary Action History Society is holding an international research conference at the University of Huddersfield, UK, 10-12 July 2013. We invite papers on six themes: activism and campaigning; co-operation and mutualism; humanitarianism and relief; leisure and voluntary action; state and voluntary action and wars and voluntarism.
Papers might address these themes at any level from the local to the global, and we would be especially interested in papers that take a transnational approach to their subject.
Our keynote speakers are Professor Ellen Ross (Ramapo College, New Jersey) and Professor Barry Doyle (University of Huddersfield)
Proposals for individual papers or panel sessions of three papers are invited on any of the themes above, with reference to any historical period or international setting. In particular VAHS welcomes papers covering earlier time periods and under-researched subjects, as well as papers by new researchers and PhD students. Please submit abstracts of 250 words by 31 December 2012.
