The Ghana Studies Association welcomes paper and panel proposals for its conference to be held in Kumasi, Ghana, 23-26 May 2013 on the campus of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. This interdisciplinary gathering of local and international scholars, graduate students, development professionals and artists will engage a wide range of issues related to Ghanaian and African history, culture, society and politics.
Formal paper and panel proposals are welcome on issues related, but not limited, to the following:
(A) Music, the Arts and Popular Culture
(B) Sports and Society
(C) Media and Information Technology
(D) Human Rights, Humanitarianism, and NGOs
(E) Politics, Political Participation, and Democracy
(F) The Rural Sector, Society, and Natural Resources
(G) Public Health, Waste Management, and the Environment
(H) Cities, Urbanization, and Labor
(I) Spirituality, Religion, and Religious Communities
(J) Markets and Trade
(K) The African/Ghanaian Diaspora
(L) Societies of Pre-20th Century Ghana
(M) 20th Century Ghanaian/African History
(N) Gender, Sexuality and Society
To Propose an Individual Paper:
Send an abstract of 150 words or less and a short bio (no more than four sentences). Be sure to include a paper title at the top of the page.
To Propose a Panel:
Send a short description of the panel topic, paper abstracts and titles, and a short bio (no more than four sentences) for each panelist.
