Panel Proposal: In the Wake of Disaster: Reimagining Community in New Orleans and Haiti
Natural disasters have produced profound challenges to individual freedoms and cultural expression, as well as opportunities to rebuild communities around new foundations of belief and everyday practice. Sponsored by the South Atlantic Center for the Institute of the Americas, this panel seeks papers that address literary and cinematic responses to disasters such as Hurricane Katrina and Haiti’s 2010 earthquake, especially in relation to French and/or Creole culture. Paper proposals should be no more than 250 words and should include the author’s affiliation, email address, and mailing address. Send proposal and cv by September 7, 2012 to Audrey Goodman at Georgia State University: agoodman@gsu.edu.
