The Southern Conference on African American Studies, Inc. (SCAASI) invites paper and panel proposals for its 33rd annual convention to be held in Tallahassee, Florida, on February 7 – 9, 2013. This year’s convention theme is Changes in African America Brought by the Civil War; however, the program committee will consider proposals on any topic that pertains to the African Diaspora.
This year’s convention will feature a keynote address from distinguished psychologist, professor, author, and speaker Dr. Na’Im Akbar. Dr. Akbar was a faculty member in the Psychology Department at Florida State University for nearly thirty years, and is the owner of the private consulting firm, Mind Productions and Associates. Dr. Akbar is widely regarded as a pioneer in the field of African-centered psychology, and has written several books including, Breaking the Chains of Psychological Slavery, The Community of Self, Visions for Black Men, Light from Ancient Africa, Natural Psychology and Human Transformation, and Know Thyself.
Individual paper and panel proposal are due by OCTOBER 15, 2012. Abstracts should not exceed more than one page. Completed papers must be received on or by DECEMBER 25, 2012. Registration for the conference is $250 in advance and $300 on site. Registration includes full access to all sessions and events scheduled. REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED for program consideration.
The convention is being held at the Doubletree Hotel located at 101 South Adams Street, Tallahassee, Florida. The convention room rate is $92/night and that rate will be available through January 11, 2013.
