The purpose of these sessions is to bring together scholars and research focused on gender, slavery and slave systems in Islamicate world between the 7th and 15th centuries. Papers are encouraged from all disciplinary and interdisciplinary perspectives and regions; including India, Asia, Africa, Mesopotamia and Arabia, Persia and the Mediterranean. As the intersection(s) of gender and slavery are complicated in the Islamicate world, the themes of these sessions are purposefully broad in order to accommodate scholarship that fits into either - or both - topics.
Please submit abstracts of no more than 400 words, including the session title, and a Participant Information form to Lisa Nielson (len12@case.edu) by September 15, 2012.
