Perhaps the greatest challenge facing Nigerian society today is the problem of insecurity. This problem is rooted in socio-economic and political history of Nigeria. The rate and scale of insecurity in Nigeria require historical exploration to comprehend its roots and implications on the future of this country. It is on this note that the Department of History, Obafemi Awolowo University in collaboration with the Network of Nigerian Historians proposes a conference to bring scholars from diverse fields together to discuss Security Challenges facing the Nigerian State.

Abstracts: Abstracts of not more than 250 words on any of the sub-themes should be sent to historyoau@yahoo.com by interested participants not later than 31st July, 2012. Authors will be notified on the decision on their abstract by 15th August, 2012. Papers are expected by 30th September, 2012. The Chicago Manual of Style is strongly recommended for referencing.
