Western Europe has an increasing immigrant population that contemporary film represents in a variety of genres. This panel will analyze contemporary films depicting immigrants that alternate or combine pacifism with a right-wing sentiment. How plot and mise-en-scène reinforce stereotypes is of interest, as well as how such stereotypes are complicated to disturb facile conclusions. Views of immigrants display elements of nationalism. Therefore, a discussion of aspects of patriotism in the films discussed will enhance our cultural dialogue.
