Papers sought for panel at Chicago's Society for Cinema and Media Studies 2013 Conference on the mass mediation of traumatic events in Latin America and the Latin@ in the U.S.
As scholars have noted, cinema and other media serve as powerful forms through which traumatic and repressed national and local histories may be acknowledged and engaged.
Our panel examines recent film and digital media in Latin American and the Latin@. that have addressed traumatic history in these regions, paying special attention to new notions of witnessing, memory transmission, and cultural memory that these forms of media offer for audiences.
Papers concerning these issues as well as others coherent with the panel's purview are welcome.
