In this conference of the Atlantic History Seminar Professor Philip Morgan (Johns Hopkins University) will present a core paper on the Caribbean in Atlantic history in the early modern period. This will be followed by comments by Professor Stuart Schwartz (Yale University), Professor Jane Landers (Vanderbilt University) and Professor Malick Ghachem (University of Maine Law School). In the afternoon Professor Peter N. Miller (Bard Graduate Center) will comment, with reference to his forthcoming book The Sea: Thalassography & Historiography. Professor Bernard Bailyn (Harvard University) will present views on regional history relevant to the Atlantic and the Caribbean, followed by comments by Professor Peter Coclanis (University of North Carolina). The Conference will be open for general discussion after each set of comments.
The Conference, at Harvard University, is open to the academic public, and those who attend are urged to join in the discussion.
