Mobility of people, families and populations is deeply-rooted in the concept of civilization. However, in the late 19th and in the 20th century, this phenomena increased dramatically. Migrations originated mainly from economic reasons - since some territories offered better job opportunities - from political motivations, during wars, persecutions or exile policies, or, in some cases, from ideological or religious enthusiasms, as for the Jewish settlement in Palestine.
A monographic issue of Percorsi Storici, an on-line review of contemporary history, will discuss some case studies, dealing with social and economic features of migrations, but also with the political and institutional sphere. Topics will include (but are not limited to) the analysis of the motivations that supported the mobility, the dynamics of integration in the new contexts, the economic relationships and the identity links with the motherland. We will accept either essays that consider single case studies, or wider researches that focus on a specific demographic flow. Proposals which, besides the aspects above mentioned, will analyse also the homecoming after a period spent in a foreign country are particularly welcome. We invite contributions from historians and we also welcome essays from scholars of other disciplines in the humanities and social sciences as long as they use a diachronic perspective in order to encourage an inter-disciplinary dialogue.

Authors will be notified by August 30th, 2012 whether or not their abstract has been accepted. The deadline for full-length article, if accepted, is October 30th, 2012. Articles shall not be over 50.000 characters. All submissions will be peer reviewed. We accept abstract and articles in Italian and English.
