Beyond the Limits of Representation: Literature and Visual Culture
(Conference CFP)
The conference is devoted to images in painting, photography and cinema "invented" by literature. At the same time it intends to question, through this perspective, the relationship between text and image, between verbal and visual. At the conference are invited both scholars who have studied the mutual “boundaries” between literature and arts from the point of view of aesthetics, visual culture and literary theory, and literary scholars interested in building a map of what John Hollander called “notional ekphrasis”, a description which “constitutes” the work of art while telling it.
Participants at the conference: Silvia Albertazzi, Antonella Anedda, Vittoria Borsò, Gabriella Catalano, Michele Cometa, Filippo Fimiani, Francesco Fiorentino, Massimo Fusillo, Fernando Hernández, Liliane Louvel, Alain Montandon, Andrea Somaini, Helmut Pfotenhauer, Andrea Pinotti, Gian Piero Piretto, Alessandra Violi.
All applicants (see details in the website www.studiculturali.it) are invited to send - in Italian and / or English - a proposal for a contribution closely related to the theme of the conference (max. 4000 characters). This abstract will be included among the materials of the conference and published on the website www.studiculturali.it in order to promote the researches of the scholars involved. The Scientific Board will invite the most significant and consistent proposals to participate with a paper to the conference proceedings. The abstract should be sent by e-mail to the conference staff (valentinamignano@gmail.com), no later than July 31, 2012.
