This one day symposium will address the theme of cross-cultural exchange in Irish art, architecture and material culture. The aim is to explore the theme of influence, both outward and inward, on art in Ireland from the pre-Christian to the contemporary.
Themes for discussion to include, but are not limited to:
Cultural Conversations: foreign influences on art in Ireland, and the role of Irish art abroad.
Visiting Ireland: an outsider's view
Artworks at home and abroad: exhibition and display of Irish art
Material Culture and Identity: gift-giving, exchange and ephemera
Built Heritage: international influence and architecture in Ireland
Submissions are welcomed from current postgraduate students and early career researchers. The deadline for expressions of interest and abstracts of 250-300 words for 20 minute papers is Friday, 22 June 2012.
The symposium will take place on Friday, 5 October in the Long Room Hub, Trinity College, Dublin.
