A UNIQUE DIALOGUE AND ORIGINAL EVENT AS PART AS
THE 2ND EDITION OF THE ART HISTORY FESTIVAL IN FONTAINEBLEAU
Guy Barthèlemy, French scholar of Orientalism in Literature and Painting (member of the Centre for Social History of Mediterranean Islam) will dialogue with Emirati artists Abdullah Al Saadi and Mohamed Ahmed Ibrahim from Khor Fakkan (Sharjah). They will freely discuss the concept of the ‘Journey to the Orient’ with an intersectional approach to Orientalist art (literature and painting of the eighteenth and nineteenth century) and contemporary art production of eminent Gulf artists, who are now active players, not merely ‘window dressings’ in a fantasized Orient.
Through mirror effects, re-appropriation of the theme and the lens of double decentration, we will see how the ‘Journey to the Orient’ is being questioned and even reinvented.
