Due to its central geopolitical location the “Middle East” is a place where knowledge and human experience thrived throughout history. These encounters in the religious, cultural and political spheres prompt the question of whether the “Middle East” is fiction or reality. In the light of the recent changes it is crucial to locate the spaces where conflict, change and transformation occur. Moreover, when considering these interactions it is imperative to link them to broader intellectual and political trends. At the same time it must be determined how expectations and hopes for the future of the “Middle East” as well as new opportunities are facing up to the challenges and threats. To achieve an comprehensive reading of the region, it is essential to create a framework that allows scholars from the region to meet and share their experiences. Therefore we are cordially inviting academic contributions critically engaging with the theme of our conference “Middle East’: Change, Conflict and Transformation”.
