This conference will explore masculinity across a distance/difference between the systemic and the corporeal, the abstract and the concrete. Our comparative focus will be masculinities in the US and/or the UK since World War II: a period in which differentiated masculinities proliferate for specifically national and transnational reasons, including global waves of decolonization, changing patterns of migration, the emergence of new subaltern subjects demanding social, cultural, and political recognition, as well as conservative reactions against these developments.
Opening lectures by Michael Kimmel, Walter Erhart, and Brigitte Georgi-Findlay
Free and open to the public
June 13-15, 2012, Dresden University of Technology, Germany
Organizers: Prof. Dr. Stefan Horlacher, Dresden University of Technology; and Prof. Kevin Floyd, Kent State University
