Venue: Long Room Hub, Trinity College, Dublin.
Date: 5 October 2012.
This one day symposium will address the cross-cultural exchange and influence in Irish art, architecture and material culture. The aim is to explore the theme of influence, both outward and inward, on art in Ireland from the pre-Christian to the contemporary.
Themes for discussion to include, but are not limited to:
Cultural Conversations: foreign influence on art in Ireland, and the role of Irish art abroad
Visiting Ireland: an outsider's view
Artworks at Home and Abroad: exhibition and display of Irish art
Material Cultural and Identity: gift-giving, exchange and ephemera
Built Heritage: international influence and architecture in Ireland
Submissions are welcomed for current postgraduate and early career researchers. The deadline for expressions of interest and abstracts of 250-300 words for 20 minute papers in Friday, 22 June 2012.
